ABOUT THE COLLEGE

L.G.B Girls’ College is one of the premier institution of women’s education located in the cultural capital of Assam, Tezpur. Since its inception in 1979, the college aims for the holistic development of women students enabling them to make a meaning contribution to the society and nation. The institution hopes to play a lead role in capacity building of the students preparing them for a pioneering and creative role in the development of the nation and to ensure active and equal participation in the process of decision making in all spheres of life. Through its proactive stance in imparting good education, inculcating a sense of discipline integrity and moral values the college has grown over the years into a premier institution.

The college is aware that in the context of the present times, it can no longer remain a cloistered educational institution but has to reach out to the society and therefore a number of extension activities have been taken up accordingly. With student strength of 1115 at present, the college has grown from strength to strength in its endeavor to further the cause of women’s education in the region.

In the last 42 years of its history the college has grown from strength to strength with remarkable progress on all sides. Overall, this prestigious institute for women is well equipped, not only in infrastructure but also in imparting quality education by qualified faculty of teachers who have been greatly successful in giving to the society some of the best talents.


PROFILE OF THE COLLEGE

The seeds for the necessity of an independent college for women in Tezpur, germinated way back in 1963 in the mind of a few conscientious citizens of Tezpur like Lt. Mahi Kanta Das, Lt Purnanarayan Sinha and few others. But it was not until 1975, that this germination took a stronger hold and finally gave birth to the girls’ college in 1979. This premier institute of female education was establish on 18th November, 1979 and was christened as Girls’ College, Tezpur with only three students to sustain her at the beginning. The college was first housed at Tezpur Law College till it shifted to its own premises in July 1987, near the present Electronic Telephone Exchange. But as that building and land was not sufficient to fulfill the rules and requirements set by the Government, the college shifted for the second time to its present location in 1989, and in the same year was renamed as LOKAPRIYA GOPINATH BORDOLOI GIRLS’ COLLEGE, Tezpur to commemorate the birth centenary of the great statesman.


LOCATION

L.G.B Girls’ college is situated at Mission Chariali, Tezpur, by the side of N.H. 15. The college is in the vicinity of some of the important landmark of Tezpur, viz the Baptist Christian Hospital, The Trade & Industry, Nezone Foods pvt. Ltd., B.J. Hospital, 4 Crops Army Base, to name a few which gives the location its prime importance. The college is easily accessible by all modes of communication.


CAMPUS

The college has a total area of 6 bigha, 2 katha, 3 lessa of land spreading in its Mission Chariali campus and also has its own building and land near Kachari Gaon Chariali (Near Tribeni) in Tezpur town. The college campus with its ideal surrounding provides a serene academic atmosphere.


INFRASTRUCTURE

There are spacious classrooms, Digital library, administrative block, Girls’ common room, Indoor stadium, canteen, car and bicycle parking; Drinking water booth and cycle stand with all amenities for a suitable academic atmosphere in the college.
